Now that you have
a web presence, how can we find it? |
|
|
Your web presence has been
delivered, your company is
excited, now what? How will
potential customers find you
nestled in the vast Internet
marketplace? Do you have limited
marketing resources? This
article will give you a few
pointers and lead you towards
the next level of success.
Incorporate your website
address into all of your printed
material.
This would include all
advertising or marketing copy,
your letterhead, your business
cards and your e-mail
signatures. You must also make
sure all employees (including
the technologically challenged)
are familiar with your website
address and what's available for
your online customers. Encourage
them to refer to your web
presence regularly.
The Press
The press can be an affordable
solution in your marketing
campaign. One way to utilize the
power of the press is to write a
press release. This free
resource, when written properly,
can divulge new product or
service information, while
promoting your web presence.
Direct Mail
You often (or should) collect
your customers address
information. You can incorporate
direct mailings by informing
customers about changes to your
website, or featured products
available online.
Word of Mouth
Your staff, friends and family
should all be aware of your web
presence. One person knows ten
people who know ten more who
know twenty more and so on. Word
travels fast. This method is
great for increasing awareness
and requires little effort.
Generally speaking, the more
channels you use to promote your
site the more likely you are to
increase its awareness.
Converting offline customers to
online customers can often save
you time and money.
Tips on inexpensive and
effective online site marketing:
Register your site
Register your site with all the
major search engines (e.g.
Google, MSN) by contacting them
directly, or by paying us to do
it for you. Send your details to
some online directories (e.g.Yahoo).
Ideally you want your web
address to appear high on the
list of sites found when a
search engine is answering an
inquiry relevant to your
business. Your positioning in
the ranking can be optimized by
the strategic use of keywords.
Speak to us about the options
available to you
Post messages about your site
in relevant newsgroups and Web
forums.
A note of caution when using
this strategy, the keywords you
use are very relevant. If you
simple type in information about
your site or product without
integrating it into the flow of
the forum you may receive some
angry e-mails. Blatant
advertising is frowned upon (and
regularly purged) but if you are
able to offer help and advice
you may be rewarded with site
visits from grateful recipients.
Get visitors to return
The primary way to drive "repeat
traffic" (i.e. persuade users to
return to your site) is to
constantly add new content and
to keep the information fresh.
This may sound obvious but is
the most easily forgotten method
of all. |
