Usability - Is it easy? Does it Function... |
|
|
Usability is
one of the biggest issues on the
internet today. Ideally,
usability is concerned with
making things easy to use, easy
to understand and easy to
implement. Usability regarding
the web focuses on the end user
experience and how they interact
with your web presence and or
application.
Over time, usability has become
an established part of the
development life cycle for many
companies. This is due, in part,
to the benefits gained from
excellent usability as well as
to the negative impact resulting
from poor usability.
Your web presence
Your website may be your primary
public presence. Therefore, it
must instill the same level of
confidence as traditional stores
and offices. If the website is
not easy to use or aesthetically
pleasing, the end user will not
feel confident with the company.
This can prove costly if your
competitors are just a
mouse-click away. You may have a
great looking website, but if it
doesn’t function properly the
end user will become frustrated.
All too often we have seen
poorly designed sites that do
not effectively communicate what
a company or industry is about.
If an end user has to think too
much or gets lost within your
website, they will turn the
other way.
Your web application
The same methodology mentioned
above coincides with software
applications. With innovative
web technologies coming into
play, more organizations are
moving their business processes
to the web. This solution offers
a centralized location in which
to house the processes and
allows staff easy remote access
for maintenance and information.
If your application does not
function properly, is
disorganized, or is not easy to
use, then it will end up costing
you money in lost sales and
manpower.
